IPLOCA Regional Director for East & Far-East Sandip Sharma was on hand to greet attendees and answer their questions.
The meeting was attended by local Regular and Associate Members, some senior officials from the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and GAIL (INDIA) Ltd, and some ministries.
Following a general presentation on IPLOCA, future scenarios and the upcoming challenges for the oil & gas industry were discussed by the following:
It was noted that the emerging economy of India and its growth is requiring more and more energy (oil & gas) and that natural gas will play a major role in meeting India's increasing demand. Accordingly the oil & gas sector in India will expand significantly in the next five years and give rise to participation from many organisations and companies both from overseas and within India. HSE, Quality and New Technologies will assume a greater role in the times to come.
The matter of acquiring ROU (right of use) is governed by the Government of India's Petroleum & Mineral Pipeline Act 1962. This and EPRS (the Emergency Pipeline Repair System) are critical areas which need to be addressed. Training & HR related issues were also discussed during the meeting.
