2011 Health & Safety Award winners

The 2011 IPLOCA Health and Safety Award sponsored by Chevron was presented during the annual Convention held in Beijing in recognition of a significant achievement in this area.

Adam Wynne Hughes, IPLOCA HSE Committee Chairman, made a presentation on Health & Safety Satistics and on the 2011 Health and Safety Award sponsored by Chevron.

The Committee decided to present the Award to SNC-Lavalin, represented by Melody Kratsios, in recognition of their great work on their FOCUS Task Cards.

 The reasons the panel made this Award are the following:

  • the cards are signed by workers, foremen and supervisors
  • I know I can achieve something if I use it
  • this is a good tool for today's projects where you find 10-12 different languages
  • very clear message is given by using symbols
  • this helps overcome language barriers
  • it is simple and easy to follow
  • it has not been designed to satisfy management and auditors
  • it offers a very good spectrum of hazards.
