IPLOCA has been collecting annual health & safety statistics from the membership since 1999 and Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) have been identified as one of the highest number reported, most of them with very negative consequences.
Based on these results, the IPLOCA HSE Committee has decided to organize a workshop to share experiences and collect from the membership all the different initiatives being put in practice to reduce RTA so as to share this information.
19 delegates from 16 different companies attended this workshop held on Tuesday 26 June 2012 in the Moevenpick Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland.
The workshop started with an introduction by Juan Arzuaga, IPLOCA Executive Secretary on IPLOCA activities and initiatives, and a review of the agenda and objectives of the meeting.
The second presentation was made by Gordon Wyse, Health & Safety Manager of BP Exploration (Caspian Sea) who addressed attendees about BP's "Journey towards Safer Road Travel". This included very interesting comments about lessons learned during the BTC project as well as an overview of the challenges expected in the expansion of the SCP project.
Dr. Waseem MHD Fateh Atiah, General Manager of FMSi (Fleet Management Systems International) then made a presentation on In-vehicle monitoring systems (IVMS), and explained how can this technology help preventing RTA and lead to fleet management efficiency.
After a coffee break, participants split up into four groups to discuss specific RTA topics and share their experience and knowledge. Results from those workshops were presented during the afternoon.
