MAX STREICHER S.p.A. powers sustainability at SNAM’s Poggio Renatico Station
MAX STREICHER S.p.A. is currently working on a transformative upgrade of SNAM’s gas compression station in Poggio Renatico, highlighting a strategic shift toward energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
The main focus of the modernisation is the installation of a cutting-edge 15 MW EC5 electric compressor, which will initially operate in tandem with the existing 12 MW TC turbo compressors and ultimately replace one of them. Unlike its combustion-driven predecessor, the EC5 is a zero-emission, electric motor-driven unit controlled by a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), enabling precise regulation of power, speed, and torque. The system’s thermal efficiency is ensured through the externally installed EA-EC5 cooling solution. This comprehensive upgrade, executed over three phases and spanning 24 months, includes civil, mechanical, electrical and cathodic protection work. During scheduled plant downtime, the EC5 will be pre-commissioned, commissioned and seamlessly integrated into existing operations.
With substantial benefits in air quality and plant performance, this initiative marks a decisive step forward for SNAM and Italy’s energy infrastructure – propelling the country toward a cleaner, more sustainable future.
