CPP Launches EACOP Carbon Footprint Reduction Project
On 20 July, China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co., Ltd. (CPP) started the Carbon Footprint Reduction (CFR) project for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) at Pump Station PS6. The project supports the pipeline’s green development by improving energy efficiency at pump stations, reducing operational carbon emissions and supporting compliance with international green construction standards.
As power demand is concentrated at pump stations, conventional power supply systems result in high energy consumption and increased carbon management challenges. To support low-carbon development, the project introduces battery energy storage and green upgrades to optimize power use, improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Covering five pump stations, the project includes Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), grid adaptation systems and water-quench environmental systems to improve operating conditions and help reduce pollutant emissions. Intelligent energy storage technology will enable dynamic load management and reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
While building the EACOP pipeline, CPP project team implemented environmental protection measures, including ecological baseline surveys, route optimization, in-situ protection and translocation of rare plant species, and measures to minimize impacts on wildlife habitats. During the CFR project, CPP will continue to implement strict environmental, safety and quality management measures throughout construction.
