De Romein completes high voltage cable pipeline duct installation for landfall project in Germany
NeuConnect is an important renewable energy installation project for Germany, which will see around 725 km of land and subsea cables form an ‘invisible highway’ of shared energy between Germany and Great Britain. De Romein was appointed as one of the contractors to deliver the pipeline ducts, ahead of the cable installation works, from 100 m offshore to the shore landing at Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
This project required a significant amount of detailed engineering and preparatory work to plan both the onshore HDD drilling and the laying of the duct—installed using the pipe-pushing methodology—as well as the offshore activities to receive and secure the duct for future cable installation. This was a complex, however relatively short project which De Romein successfully completed in September 2025, within just a 5-week period. Currently, De Romein is installing the pipeline ducts and the HVDC cables along the land corridor route, which runs from the shore landing to a newly constructed converter station 12 km inland. De Romein is proud to be delivering part of this important shared energy project.
