TAG completes major gas pipeline project in Brazil
Completed in 2024, the construction of the GASFOR II gas pipeline is among the main initiatives carried out by TAG reinforcing the company’s natural gas transport network in Brazil’s Northeast Region.
The new gas pipeline, which is a variant of the GASFOR I gas pipeline, is approximately 84 km long and was constructed away from the densely populated area of Fortaleza city. The pipeline represents a milestone in the return of large investments in the natural gas transportation sector, paving the way for expanding the gas pipeline to Rio Grande do Norte State, reinforcing the supply options for the markets served by the national integrated network, and addressing the needs of an expanding market in the region. The project began in 2011, and – under the company’s previous management – construction was interrupted in 2013, only to resume in 2022, after TAG was acquired by its new shareholders. Subsequently, new pipes were purchased and the final commissioning activities for the commercial operation of the gas pipeline were replanned. TAG currently operates more than 300 km of gas pipelines in the state of Ceará, transporting natural gas to the local distributor company, thermal plants and various industries.
