CPP unveils “Four Full-Capacity” Welding and Inspection System

On 3 April 2025, China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co,. Ltd. (CPP) launched its self-developed “Four Full-Capacity” Pipeline Welding and Inspection System, delivering major advances in pipeline construction. The system features full diameter coverage, full terrain adaptability, full weld-joint-type compatibility, and fully automated welding and ultrasonic testing.

Supporting pipe diameters from 33 mm to 1,422 mm, it operates efficiently across complex terrains like mountains, deserts, and swamps. The system delivers fully automated welding and ultrasonic testing, setting new industry standards for quality and precision. In the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP), the system achieved a one-pass welding qualification rate over 98%. It reduced welding material per joint from 2.9 kg to 1 kg, and fuel consumption from 30 litres to 10 litres, cutting emissions by over 60%. To date, CPP has produced 65 complete equipment sets, developed 10 new construction methodologies, obtained 56 invention patents, and led the drafting of 10 industry standards. The robotic system has replaced traditional manual and semi-automated methods, accelerating the shift toward intelligent construction.

It has been widely deployed in major domestic and international projects, including the third line of West-to-East Gas Pipeline Project in China and projects for TotalEnergies and Saudi Aramco.
